How to change your mood Instantly

Put pencil between your teeth  can change your mood
If you find yourself feeling blue and in need of a laugh, grab a pencil and hold it between your teeth.

Wait, what?

Put a pencil between your teeth but don't bite in just the right way, and you’ll feel happier. This effect demonstrates the “facial feedback” theory of emotion—but you can think of it as “fake it till you make it.” The idea is simple: your brain is constantly monitoring what’s happening in your body. It analyzes things like muscle tension, posture, heart rate, breathing, and, yes, facial expressions, to judge how you are feeling. This is example of the facial feedback hypothesis, which suggests that your facial activity can effect your emotional responses. Scientists set out to test whether our body language governs how we think and feel about ourselves and whether our bodies change our minds.

How a pencil can cure headaches
When you're stressed or anxious after a busy day in the office or a noisy afternoon with the kids, you subconsciously clench your jaw and teeth; this strains the muscle that connects your jaw to your temples and can trigger a tension headache. But rather than reaching straight for the medicine cabinet, expert says the solution could be as simple as putting a pencil between your teeth. Fred Sheftell, MD, director of the New England Center for Headache in Stamford, CT.,Says you automatically relax your jaw muscle to do this, which can prevent the pain.

However, this remedy applies only to tension headaches and won't relieve pain caused by other types of headaches.

Just by drawing up your facial muscles up into a smile, gets your body to increase the level of mood-enhancing hormones like endorphins and reduces the levels of stress enhancing hormones like cortisol. Or you could just fake a smile and get the same result. The researchers measured participants’ heart rate and stress levels during and after the mental challenge and pain task.
Amazingly, those who were mimicking a genuine smile were less stressed and showed faster physiological recovery from the stressful tasks than those mimicking a fake smile or no smile.

If you are trying to change your mood, the trick may not work as well (if at all). Your brain will know why you are activating those smiling muscles, and won’t misinterpret the expression as happiness.
